As Angelenos cast final ballots Tuesday to decide whether Mayor Karen Bass keeps her job or challenger Nithya Raman replaces her, Hollywood celebrities spent the closing days urging voters to back their candidate.

Stand-up comedian and actor, George Lopez, who posted Monday, likened the mayor to a relative who arrives with a big pot of pozole before anyone is hungry.

“She’s gonna keep fighting for us, but también we have to fight for her,” he said.

Among the endorsements for Raman, the one that drew the most engagement came from comedian Brennan Lee Mulligan, who posted it on his own page rather than through her campaign account.

Wearing an “I Voted” sticker on his forehead, he said he was backing Raman for mayor and Marissa Roy for city attorney, and added that strong candidates are running across the country.

Bass drew public support from Jane Fonda, Samuel L. Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Anthony Anderson, Cedric the Entertainer, Yvette Nicole Brown, Kym Whitley, D.L. Hughley and Dustin Lance Black, the LA Times reported.

Raman’s backers, according to the news outlet, include Bob Odenkirk, Mindy Kaling, Adam Scott, Joel Kim Booster, Caleb Hearon, Poppy Liu, P.J. Byrne, Adam Conover and Jaboukie Young-White.

Fonda appeared beside Bass in a video last week and described her as “a woman of the people.” The actress said the mayor treats public service as a calling rather than a career, noting that Bass worked as an organizer and activist before running for office.

Jackson, in a video released last Sunday, went after Raman on the issue voters raise most. meetings.

“Battling the nationwide homeless epidemic is the hardest job in the American government. Karen Bass walked toward it in one day. Her opponent chaired the city council’s housing and homelessness committee and canceled meetings on it,” he said.

Actor Anthony Anderson made his case in a video last Saturday, pointing to Bass’s record with Hollywood: “She created the California Film and Television Tax Credit.”
