Aaron Rodgers is in the midst of his final NFL season, but the future Hall of Famer also remains fixated on the future of his family.
During the Thursday Night Football broadcast of Rodgers’ Steelers taking on the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, October 1, sportscaster Al Michaels revealed what the quarterback told him he’ll be doing a year from now.
“I’ll either be tending to my pregnant wife or I’ll be taking care of my newborn,” Rodgers, 42, said to Michaels, 81.
The Steelers lost to the Browns, 27-24, dropping them to 2-2 on the season.
Rodgers was doubling down on comments he made last month about what he envisions for himself once his football career ends.
“I’m hopefully going to be supporting my pregnant wife because we’re going to start a family and I am not going to be making a lot of appearances or statements,” he said on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio on September 8. “And I’m looking forward to a life of quiet after 22 years in the pros and three in college and getting my body healed up and working on a family. That’s what I’m looking forward to.”
Rodgers clarified that his wife, Brittani — who he married in spring 2025 and whose identity has not yet been revealed — is not currently pregnant.
“I’m talking about I’m hoping that I have a pregnant wife by next [year] this time,” he noted.
The specific language of Rodgers’ revelation didn’t sit right with everybody, including ESPN analyst Mina Kimes.
“I just don’t know if I’ve ever heard anyone use those words in that way,” Kimes, 41, said on “The Sports Gossip Show” on September 8. “That was my reaction. You know the Bart Simpson [quote], ‘What an odd thing to say.’”
Kimes added, “It was just a strange way of putting it, as opposed to, ‘I want to start a family.’”
Rodgers has constantly insisted that this season will be his last, even saying his wife inspired him to return for one last rodeo.
“I talked to the wife and she said, ‘You can do one more year,’” Rodgers told reporters at training camp in July. “I said, ‘Well, we’ll see if it works out.’ And then it kind of all came together.”
Once the season ends, Rodgers said there will be “zero debate” about him coming back for another year.
The Steelers return to action on Sunday, October 11, when they host the Indianapolis Colts.
