Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes‘ headline-making relationship took the world by storm in late 2022, but Chelsea Clinton missed the special report.

“We [hadn’t] seen Chelsea Clinton in two years because she didn’t run [the New York City marathon] last year,” Robach, 51, said during the Monday, November 4, episode of her and Holmes’ “Amy & T.J.” podcast, noting that a broken foot obtained while “running after one of her children” kept Clinton, 44, out of the 2023 race.

Robach explained that when the twosome were “catching up” at this year’s marathon on Sunday, November 3, it became clear that Clinton “did not know” that she and Holmes, 47, “no longer worked for Good Morning America.”

“And I had to quickly catch her up,” Robach said, laughing.

“Can you quickly catch somebody up on that story?” Holmes quipped.

Robach and Holmes were still legally married to Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig, respectively, when the Daily Mail published photos of the then-coanchors getting cozy in November 2022. The duo would later reveal that they were both already in divorce proceedings at the time. They officially exited GMA3: What You Need to Know in January 2023.

“After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes about different options, we all agreed it’s best for everyone that they move on from ABC News,” the network said in a statement at the time. “We recognize their talent and commitment over the years and are thankful for their contributions.”

Weeks before the photos surfaced that broke the news of their relationship, Robach and Holmes ran the 2022 NYC marathon together. Robach noted on Monday that Clinton assumed they were dating at the time.

“[Chelsea was like], ‘Oh, I totally thought you were together [back then].’ I said, ‘Well, we were together. We just weren’t officially out,’” she said.

Robach also revealed that Clinton made a comment at the 2022 marathon about how she and Holmes were “so cute it’s nauseating” because they were wearing matching outfits.

The daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton did offer an explanation for how she missed all the discourse surrounding Robach and Holmes’ romance.

“She said, ‘Oh, my gosh, I can’t believe that all happened and I missed it. I guess I’m only doing Google searches on myself. I’m only worried about the bad press I’m receiving,’” Robach recalled Chelsea telling her on Sunday. “I laughed so hard. It was just a really awesome dose of perspective.”

Robach and Holmes explained that they hung out with Clinton and other stars, including Jennifer Connelly and Bachelor Nation’s Peter Weber, on the “celebrity VIP” bus that transported them to the marathon.

“That bus ride is special,” Holmes said, with Robach adding that “everyone’s a little nervous and very excited.”

Holmes went on to praise Connelly, 53, who was a first-time marathoner this year.

“She was beyond all expectations of how sweet and sincere and just real she was,” he said.

Robach shared several Instagram photos from the big day on Monday, including a snap of herself with Chelsea and Connelly. Holmes also shared pictures from the event, including a shot of his 11-year-old daughter, Sabine, whom he shares with Fiebig, cheering him on from the sidelines.

During the race, Robach enjoyed a moment of reflection while thinking about how far she and Holmes have come in the past two years. She recalled during Monday’s episode how she got emotional “around mile six” when she looked over at Holmes.

“All of the struggles of the last two years kind of came over me and I looked over at you,” she said. “I just said, ‘I love you,’ because I felt so honored that the person who I’ve been through all of this with was right by my side doing something that’s really hard and that we were doing it together.”
