Was this a bridge too far?
A bungee jumping instructor in Spain made social media users hopping mad after pushing a terrified woman off a bridge despite her screaming and hanging onto the railing. A video of his brazen and violating act has amassed over 4.2 million views.
“I was told I won the year’s screaming award,” wrote the reluctant jumper, named Christina, in the clip’s caption.
In the clip, the reluctant jumper is seen being strapped into the bungee harness as she stands at the edge of a bridge overlooking a body of water far below.
She fights back tears while repeating “no, no, no” and vehemently shaking her head like a reticent bird leaving the nest.
At one point, her off-camera friend advises Christina not to look down.
The petrified gal attempts to cling to the bridge’s railing, but the instructor peels her hand off a la Scar in the “Lion King” and forces a selfie stick into her hand.
Knowing the moment of reckoning is at hand, the thrill-seeker starts shrieking at the bungee boss to give her a moment, but he ignores her pleas.
Then, without warning, the grinning instructor puts her arm in front of her and knees her bum so she goes flying off the edge.
The camera then cuts to GoPro footage, which shows the adrenaline junkie screaming all the way down until she reaches the end of the tether and is left swinging back and forth under the bridge.
Fortunately, by the end, Christina appears to be screaming with exhilaration and relief instead of terror.
Nonetheless, viewers had mixed feelings about the pushy instructor’s method of helping her conquer her fear of flying, arguing that she didn’t consent to the plunge.
“If she didn’t want to, why did he throw her away?” inquired one disapproving commenter, while another wrote, “She said no, why did he push her?”
“I think that if the person says no three times, they should be removed immediately and their money should be returned,” added a third. “But pushing when they say no is not right either.”
