San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey’s sister-in-law said she and her boyfriend were almost robbed during a terrifying incident on a train ride in Europe last week.
Sophia Culpo, the younger sister of McCaffrey’s wife Olivia, detailed the scary scene in a video she posted to TikTok on Friday, explaining the situation all unfolded as she and her significant other were traveling from Nice to Portofino.
“We had our luggage in the seat in front of us,” Culpo said. “That was the only option. And we had our bags on top. And these two guys who had been sitting on the train get up to start walking off the train.”
One of the men, Culpo said, dropped his phone near her boyfriend’s feet in an apparent effort to distract the couple.
“As that guy does that,” Culpo said, “there’s a guy behind him who reaches over to our luggage to get my bag.”
Fortunately, Culpo said she was able to jump up and grab her belongings before they were taken, but as she made her move, she noticed her boyfriend was in a physical altercation with the other man.
“My boyfriend is shoving this guy across the train,” she said.
What made the matter even more horrifying, according to Culpo, is one of the suspects “had a massive scar going across his” neck, putting her in fear they might have been armed.
“It literally looked like a knife wound,” Culpo said. “If they had a knife — it was just so scary, honestly.”
Ultimately, Culpo said the men got off the train without nabbing anyone’s things. However, she did say one of them went on to taunt her from the train platform.
“The guy comes up to the window and starts doing some disgusting things,” she said. “And it was scary, obviously. I was shaking.”
Culpo ended her video by imploring her followers to be aware of their surroundings at all times when traveling abroad.
