Unprotected hanky-panky is now, truly, a thing of the past thanks to a new, anti-revenge porn app.
“Camdom is your digital condom, blocking anyone from taking pictures, filming or recording audio without your consent,” raved masterminds behind Billy Boy, a German condom company, of their latest advertisement.
“All you need to do is to open it before having sex to protect your digital intimacy,” said the sexperts, adding that the safety software isn’t hard to use but, instead, “as easy as using a real condom.”
It’s a contraceptive for the content creator era.
Far too often risqué romps are recorded and distributed for mass consumption without the consent of one or both parties engaging in the good time.
To ensure that a shag in the sheets doesn’t go viral, amorous app users simply place their smartphones close to each other and swipe down a virtual button to block all cameras and microphones.
And if a sneaky freak attempts to sneak a snap mid-coitus, a buzzy alarm sounds, notifying the unwitting partner of the potential safety breach.
Camdom can simultaneously block as many devices as needed.
From A-listers of Kardashian acclaim to everyday locals, like the CUNY professor who secured $30 million from her ex who blasted her nudes online, revenge porn is a crime that leaves sexually active folks — namely Gen Zs and millennials of the digital age — vulnerable to its dangers.
Once those intimate moments make social media timelines, victims of the violation are likely to suffer long-term psychological, personal and social consequences.
Humiliation, anxiety, depression and lower levels of self-esteem are just a few of its damaging effects, so say researchers from the Egas Moniz School of Health & Science in Portugal.
But Felipe Almeida, the creator of Camdom, hopes to curb those outcomes.
“Nowadays, smartphones have become an extension of our body and we store a lot of sensitive data on them,” he said in a release. “In order to protect you from the recording of non-consensual content, we’ve created the first app that can block your camera and mic simply through the use of Bluetooth.”
Alexander Strümann, the brand manager for Billy Boy, says Camdom comes as a robo-assist to regular old rubbers.
“Bill Boy is a brand known to protect people in the analog world,” he began. “So we wanted to take the next step and protect the digital generation from a threat that a normal condom can’t tackle.
“The leakage of non-consensual media during sex.”
