This new ride is making a splash.
Disney World visitors are complaining that the park’s new attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, is leaving them seriously saturated.
The recently opened ride, inspired by “The Princess and the Frog,” has replaced Splash Mountain, which was shuttered because it was based on “Song of the South,” a 1946 film featuring “racist stereotypes about African Americans and plantation life.”
The theme park didn’t want to leave park-goers high and dry (quite literally), so they created another water-themed ride — but Disney lovers are drenched and disgruntled.
Several thrillseekers say the attraction, which opened on June 28 in Florida’s Walt Disney World and will open on November 15 at California’s Disneyland, does not come with a warning about how wet it becomes.
“We bought insanely overpriced ponchos before the ride, but it didn’t really help. Our shoes and bodies were soaked. We would only do this again if we had a complete change of clothes or could run back to a hotel room on the property. It’s not fun to us,” one complained.
“If we wanted to go to a water park, we would have done it, but this is located in the middle of Disneyland,” they further fumed.
They also explained the reason why people were leaving the attraction drenched.
“They have re-weighted the cars [after replacing Splash Mountain] and tweaked the water so that there are inches of water in the bottom of the car when you get in and you are drenched by the end,” they stated.
While the ride opened at Disney World in June, Disneyland’s version won’t open until Friday, but some employees and park pass holders have already tried it out — and they claim it’s even wetter than the one in Florida.
“The experience in California is wetter than it ever was when it ran as Splash Mountain with some logs appearing to just absolutely flood with water after the big splash down to the point that your shoes might be totally submerged for a time,’ a reviewer wrote, according to Screamscape.
However, others are fawning over the exciting attraction.
“I absolutely love Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland,” gushed one rider on X. “It’s so fun and I’ve been lucky enough to ride it 11 times now and I’m looking forward to many more.”
Park officials recommend riders rent lockers to prevent their personal items from getting wet.
Some thrill seekers also advise purchasing a poncho, waterproof phone case, or towel at the nearby gift shop to stay as dry as possible.
