SAN ANTONIO — Bryce Hopkins’ workout wasn’t complete when Rick Pitino ended the session.
He didn’t need to see anymore from the Providence transfer forward. Any concerns the St. John’s coach may have had were gone by that point.
“He looked great, had a great workout,” Pitino recalled on Friday from the Alamodome, after receiving his co-Associated Press National Coach of the Year award. “I stopped it about 80 percent in and said I don’t have to see anything more.”
So far, the 6-foot-7 Hopkins represents the most significant St. John’s addition through the transfer portal, an all-league player who was limited to three games this past season coming off major knee surgery.
