Home Improvement‘s Jonathan Taylor Thomas was detained for obstructing or resisting an officer, Us confirms.
According to online records, Thomas, 45, was detained at the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station’s jail on Monday, September 21, before being released.
TMZ further reported that Thomas was the passenger in a vehicle that got pulled over in Westlake Village, California. The former child star exited the vehicle despite being told to remain inside by the authorities.
Thomas has not addressed the incident directly. Us reached out for comment.
Thomas broke into acting at 9 years old when he appeared on The Bradys. He skyrocketed to fame after being cast as Randy on Home Improvement, which also starred Tim Allen, Patricia Richardson, Taran Noah Smith, Zachery Ty Bryan, Richard Karn and Debbe Dunning.
Despite becoming a household name as a young star, Thomas ultimately left the hit series, which ran from 1991 to 1999, to focus on school. He made a few more TV appearances before choosing to step back from the industry, briefly reuniting with Allen on screen for four episodes of Last Man Standing in 2013.
“I never took the fame too seriously,” Thomas shared in a 2013 interview with People. “It was a great period in my life, but it doesn’t define me. When I think back on the time, I look at it with a wink. I focus on the good moments I had, not that I was on a lot of magazine covers.”
At the time, the Man of the House star defended his decision to focus on his studies instead of acting.
“I’d been going nonstop since I was 8 years old,” he recalled. “I wanted to go to school, to travel and have a bit of a break.”
He added: “To sit in a big library amongst books and students, that was pretty cool. It was a novel experience for me.”
Thomas has since made very rare public appearances and has not taken on new projects in TV or movies. Smith, now 42, also chose to stop acting after appearing on Home Improvement from ages 6 to 16. Bryan, now 44, played their sibling on the show and also disappeared from the spotlight before making headlines for his legal woes, including DUIs arrests and alleged incidents of domestic assault.
Allen, 73, recently spoke to Us about the chances of the Home Improvement cast reuniting someday.
“They keep talking about how it could move forward, but they get stuck [because] there are some personality problems right now with the boys,” he exclusively revealed in June. “They’ve got their own issues. I always thought it would be cool if it was a story about them. That’s a little challenging right now, to put it mildly.”
