Ingenious or just plane weird?

An American Airlines passenger freaked out flyers after getting assigned “weird airplane seats” where passengers are seated next to the flight attendant.

A video depicting the bizarre configuration currently boasts over 230,000 views on TikTok.

“Have you sat in the jump seat row before?” inquired Chris Olsen, 43 — who goes by @jetset.genius on the platform — in the caption to the clip.

The San Diego-based government worker has made it his mission to land the strangest seating arrangements possible.

“I’m an aviation geek and like to try out weird seating layouts for the love of planes,” Olsen told Newsweek.

During a recent AA flight from Phoenix to San Diego the Californian purposefully booked himself a seat in row 10 of an Airbus A321 aircraft.

As the video shows, the sofa-like seat only has spots for two people while the third is a jumpseat (designated for crewmembers at rest), which is facing the opposite direction of the passenger seat.

While this arrangement might seem awkward, Olsen claimed in the captions that it’d be perfect for a “couple.”

It’s also adjacent to the emergency exit, making this couch-like configuration the perfect spot in case of an evacuation.

[It] “would be a good seat for someone afraid of flying,” the traveler declared. “It’s also cool because you can chat with the flight attendant when they’re seated in the jump seat, and they usually have interesting stories to share.”

Many armchair travelers in the comments seemed to agree with Olsen regarding the layout.

“We aim for this seat!!” said one, while another wrote, “Had this seat on my last flight and was great I put my bag under where the window seat would be.”

However, not everyone was on board with being a flight attendant’s “plus two.”

“This seat is the worst,” griped one commenter. “AA has an up charge for this seat and they don’t show the jump seat on the map. They are smaller than normal seats.”

In the realm of awkward airplane seats, perhaps nothing holds a candle to the windowless window seat or the “double date” arrangement.
