The Yankees are awash in analytics. To their credit, they know the numbers game as well as anyone. But the most obvious number is right there in front of them, yet they ignore it. Year after year, they ignore it.

Aaron Boone’s managed the Yankees for nine years, and he is zero for nine now. That isn’t good, or certainly good enough.

By the old Steinbrenner standards, Boone would have been gone six years ago. We do understand the Yankees’ expectations are more normal today, in the post-Boss era. I get there’s room for reason. But zero for nine in championships for this marquee franchise should still be unacceptable.

Zero for nine shouldn’t suffice for a team that has Aaron Judge, a team that perennially constructs a top-two rotation in the American League, a team that has the highest payroll in its league year after year, a team that’s searching for its 28th World Series win since 2009.
