The Jaguars are now on the hunt for a new GM, too.

Owner Shad Khan announced Wednesday that he fired Trent Baalke with the franchise in the middle of a coaching search.

“Following several discussions with Trent Baalke this week, we both arrived at the conclusion that it is in our mutual best interests to respectfully separate, effective immediately,” Khan said in a statement. “Trent leaves us with my deepest appreciation for his efforts over the past five seasons.

“I am deeply committed to building a winner here in Jacksonville and look forward to introducing a new head coach who will make that happen for our players and fans alike.”

Ethan Waugh will serve as the team’s interim GM and conduct coaching interviews as the Jaguars seek a replacement for Doug Peterson, who was fired at the end of the 2024 season.

The team’s hiring process took an unexpected turn earlier in the day, when Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen — the presumed favorite for the job — pulled his name out of consideration to return to Tampa Bay on what is believed to be a massive contract.

Now, the team heads back to the drawing board — on two fronts.
