Tempers flared during the first day of Bengals training camp as Ja’Marr Chase found himself involved in a dust-up during Wednesday’s practice.
Multiple videos showed the heated moment that Chase got into with several members of the defense, which included DJ Turner II and Jalen Davis.
The chaotic video showed Chase in the middle of a swarm of Bengals players as a whistle blows in the background before the receiver could be seen emerging from the pile with another player’s helmet.
WLWT reporter Jaron May reported it was Davis’ helmet that Chase had grabbed and thrown in the opposite direction.
The video then shows Chase continuing to jaw at his teammates while wide receiver Colbie Young tried to step in between the Bengals star and other players.
At one point, Davis squares up to Chase as a member of the Bengals coaching staff got in between to push Chase away.
Another coach grabbed Davis and moved him away from the situation.
Afterward, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow joked that Chase and Turner had an edge on the practice field on Wednesday.
“Those two are two of the best in the league and they’re going to be going at it every day,” Burrow told reporters. “Whatever those guys need to get excited to get better, go ahead and do it.”
Burrow admitted he’s not a huge fan of such practice interruptions, but “if you can punch somebody in the face in about 15-20 seconds and get back lined up, that’s probably ideal.”
Cincinnati fans are hoping that fight translates to the season when it kicks off in September after allowing the third-most points in the NFL over the past two seasons.
