Jeff Torborg, who was the Mets’ manager in 1992 and part of the 1993 season, died Sunday in Westfield, N.J., the Chicago White Sox announced.

He was 83.

Torborg had a successful three-year run as the White Sox’s manager from 1989-91, which included AL Manager of the Year honors in 1990.

The Mets then hired him but went 72-90 during the ’92 season, and he was fired 38 games into the 1993 season with the team sitting at 13-25. He was replaced by Dallas Green.

Torborg, a former catcher who was part of the World Series champion Dodgers in 1965 and later played for the Angels, caught Sandy Koufax’s perfect game and Nolan Ryan’s first no-hitter.

He began his managerial career with the then-Cleveland Indians in 1977 and lasted parts of three seasons.

He was then a member of the Yankees coaching staff from 1979-88 before joining the White Sox.

Torborg also had short stints managing the Expos and Marlins.
