Observations from Jets training camp on Monday.
Super Cooper
Rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. made the catch of the day, an over-the-shoulder grab along the sideline over safety Andre Cisco. During 7-on-7 drills, Cooper made a terrific adjustment on the long Geno Smith pass, which was behind him.
Butterfingers
The ball was on the ground too much. Jets receivers didn’t handle the rainy conditions well. Garrett Wilson was among those who had a drop.
Caught my eye
It was a strong day by the defense, which got the better of the offense. That included a Minkah Fitzpatrick interception of Smith on an overthrown pass over the middle. It was the Jets quarterback’s first interception of training camp. Safety Dane Belton was active, frequently getting into the backfield.
Injury report
DT T’Vondre Sweat (hamstring), DE Joseph Ossai (undisclosed) and CB D’Angelo Ponds (calf) remain week to week. … TE Kenyon Sadiq (hernia) was given a day off.
