New York Jets (-2) over PITTSBURGH STEELERS

My father taught me at a young age that betting on the Jets is usually a losing strategy.

Well, sorry pops.

This is more of a bet against Russell Wilson in his debut.

Wilson hasn’t been good for several years now, and the Steelers are turning to him for his 2024 debut against what should be an angry Jets defense.

What could possibly go wrong for a non-mobile QB?

The Steelers also are not in position to attack the Jets rush defense weakness without Justin Fields’ rushing threat.

Add in that Aaron Rodgers surely will try to show the world that he and Davante Adams are the same caliber of players from their Packers days, and the Jets should be able to win on the road by a field goal.

Rodgers has a tendency to show up when some start to doubt him, and the Jets desperately need this win to stay relevant.

Los Angeles Chargers (-2.5) over ARIZONA CARDINALS

The Chargers aren’t going to wow you, but they get the job done under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh.

The matchup that makes us believe they can win on the road is their 10th-ranked rushing offense going against the fourth-worst rushing defense allowing 153 yards per game.

Justin Herbert also showed glimpses of his ceiling last week against the Broncos, shredding a top defense by converting 11 of 18 third-downs attempts.

Betting on the NFL?

Meanwhile, Arizona’s Kyler Murray has not played well since Week 2, throwing for just four touchdowns and no more than 214 passing yards over the past four weeks.

With James Conner getting dinged up last week and Marvin Harrison Jr. suffering a concussion, it’s clear the Cardinals are not at full strength.

The better-coached team with the better quarterback wins on the road.

Last week: 1-1. Lions (W), Eagles (L)
Season: 4-8.
