The Chargers’ woes are continuing to pile up.
Coach Jim Harbaugh was asked about Rams safety Quentin Lake’s comments on the “St. Brown Podcast.” Lake said quarterback Justin Herbert “was throwing deli meat out there. He’s seeing ghosts.”
“Everybody’s entitled to their opinion. That’s not what I see,” Harbaugh said.
The moment that Lake was talking about was when he intercepted Herbert at the 7:24 mark of the first quarter in Sunday’s 24-9 loss to the Rams.
It was Herbert’s first interception of the game, but it wasn’t his last. The Rams’ secondary got him again late in the third quarter; only this time it was Trent McDuffie who picked up the interception.
Harbaugh was asked what he thought about Herbert’s two-interception performance that led to them failing to score a touchdown for the second week in a row.
“I thought this past game, he did his job exceptionally well; two throws he would’ve liked to have had back,” Harbaugh said.
Through seven games, Herbert has thrown an interception in each one of them and has been picked off 10 times this season.
Thinking that Herbert would’ve liked to have a couple of those throws back and giving puzzling answers about the way his offense has performed this season have been common Harbaugh themes.
Wednesday’s news conference was no different, as Harbaugh was confronted about Herbert always being a couple of bad throws away from changing the game’s outcome.
“We’re hell-bent on winning this game. Putting ourselves in a position to do that by preparing today,” Harbaugh said. “Looking back, we’re pressing forward.”
