Joe Brady appeared to be caught on a livestream giving Bill safety CJ Gardner-Johnson a friendly reminder about streaming live on social media around team facilities.
A clip circulated online of what seemed to be a livestream that Gardner-Johnson was doing on one of his platforms and the Bills’ new head coach could be heard talking with the NFL safety about not going live in certain team areas.
“I was done anyway,” Gardner-Johnson said at the beginning of the clip.
“I would say just be mindful, probably not locker room, training room, you know what I mean?” Brady could then be heard saying in the brief clip.
Gardner-Johnson then replies, “no worries” and he then appears to end the livestream shortly after that.
While the clip made the rounds on social media, it didn’t appear to be a big deal inside the Bills locker room and Brady told reporters on Wednesday that “something like that was not an issue.”
“Just be myself. I’m not trying to be anybody, that’s all I know,” Brady said when asked about getting his message across and placing his stamp on the team as a new coach. “This is year one for everybody. Like I told the team, we’ve never been here before. There is no, ‘you know what training camp is like.’ That’s when you fall back into the assumption of you start thinking like you always thought.
“But I can’t be anybody that I’m not. I’m going to act a certain way. There’s standards and there’s a [personality] I want us to be about and that’s what we handle in team meetings. If I see things that’s not the standard or living up to it or gets in the way of it, then I’ll address it. But something like that is not an issue. That’s not a concern.”
Gardner-Johnson didn’t appear to be bothered by it either, with videos of him enthusiastically making his way to the field on Wednesday through the rain for practice and signing autographs for fans.
Brady is in his first year as Bills head coach after being promoted from offensive coordinator following the firing of Sean McDermott.
It is Gardner-Johnson’s first season in Buffalo after playing for the Texans and Bears last season.
