Kate Middleton made a rare comment about how her cancer battle has affected those closest to her.
Posting via Instagram on Thursday, June 4, Hello! magazine shared a video of Kate, 44, visiting a cancer patient who was at the end of her own treatment.
Speaking with the patient, Kate acknowledged how tough going through a cancer ordeal can be on not only the sufferer themselves but their family as well.
“I know it’s as hard for the family and loved ones,” Kate said in the footage. “I know how hard it was for the children and my parents.”
She told the cancer patient’s partner, “You go through it with them.”
Kate and Prince William have been married since 2011, and share three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 7.
Last month, William, 43, shared an update on how Kate was faring as she continues her recovery from her health woes.
“She’s an amazing mom, an amazing wife and, literally, our family couldn’t cope without her,” William said during a May 22 appearance on the U.K.’s Heart Radio. “She’s been absolutely stunning, brilliant.”
In 2024, Kate was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer, which forced her to pause her royal work commitments to undergo treatment, including a preventative form of chemotherapy.
Last year, the Princess of Wales shared that she was in remission.
“I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year,” Kate wrote in a January 2025 statement. “My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything.”
She continued, “We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional. It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery … As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead.”
Speaking to Eugene Levy on an October 2025 episode of the actor’s The Reluctant Traveler series, William shared how the kids had dealt with Kate’s health struggles
“Everyone has their own coping mechanisms for these sorts of things, and children are constantly learning and adapting,” William said.
He added, “We try to make sure we give them the security and the safety that they need. We’re a very open family, so we talk about things that bother us, and things that trouble us, but you never quite know the knock-on effects that it can have. It’s just important to be there for each other and to kind of reassure the children that everything is OK.”
