A mom has been dragged online after sharing her ‘parenting hack’, where she lets her daughter pick out whatever she wants when they go shopping, then makes her choose just a few items to actually buy when they’re at the cash register.

The store’s employees then have to return all the unwanted items that her child has discarded, something the mom believes is “their job.”

Mom shares controversial parenting ‘hack’

The clip has since been deleted, but it was reposted by another TikTok user, @unpluggedmoments, who didn’t hesitate to share her own thoughts on the controversial parenting tip.

“Apparently, she lets her daughter go into the store and pick out whatever she wants, but then when she gets to the cash register, she picks a couple of items that they will buy and asks the employee to put the items back for her,” she explains, sharing screenshots of the original clip.

“So she got a lot of heat about it, because people were like ‘girl you’re not putting those items back,’” she continued.

The original mom then apparently made a follow-up post after the backlash defending herself, but she did herself no favors and perhaps only dug herself further into a hole.

“I do not understand the world today, where people just think that they are entitled to just stand around at their jobs,” she ranted.

“I ask an employee like, hey, I don’t have time to put all these things back are you willing to help me out, they’re usually so nice and say yes, of course I’ll help you.”

“But two, that is also their job. They’re not there to just stand around. Their job is to help the customer in the store.”

But @unpluggedmoments told the mom to “have more respect for them.”

She compared it to “going to a restaurant, sitting down and unraveling all the table settings, all the silverware that someone has wrapped up and, then go, oh, changed my mind.”

‘Entitled,’ commenters say

It’s unclear why the mom lets her daughter do this practice, but commenters had their theories.

“It’s not a life hack. She’s just wasting people’s time. It’s also just a horrible way to teach your child about budgeting and managing their expectations while shopping,” said one.

“Yeah, who even shops like that as an adult? It’s not like she’s setting her daughter up for the future,” another pointed out.

“She is definitely the lady who leaves hundreds of outfits in the dressing rooms for me to put back,” said one.

“Sure it’s their job to help out customers, but the mom is so entitled for adding to their workload,” another replied.

“They DO NOT have time to clean up after your kid,” reprimanded someone else.
