Patrick Mahomes’ dad, Patrick Mahomes Sr., was placed under arrest exactly two years after his DWI.

District Attorney Jacob Putman’s office confirmed to Us Weekly that Patrick Sr., 55, was booked into Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas, at 8:53 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, following a probation violation. TMZ was first to report the news, reporting that locals claimed Patrick Sr. had been drinking alcohol.

Patrick Sr.’s arrest on Tuesday comes exactly two years after Us confirmed his sixth DWI arrest in February 2024, days before Patrick Jr. and the Kansas City Chiefs were set to take on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Patrick Sr. was released following the arrest after posting a $10,000 bond.

Patrick Jr. addressed his dad’s arrest in a press conference ahead of the Super Bowl that year. (The Chiefs beat the 49ers 25-22 that year.)

“He’s doing good. I don’t really want to get into it too much, but he’s doing good for whatever the situation is,” the NFL star told reporters at the time. “It’s a family matter, so I will just keep it to the family. That’s all I really have to say at this point.”

Months later, police footage obtained by TMZ showed Patrick Sr. allegedly begging the police not to arrest him due to Patrick Jr.’s appearance in the Super Bowl that year.

“I am not drunk, I promise you,” he said in the video. “I’ve had some drinks, but he can’t have this right now. This can’t happen.”

Us previously reported that Patrick Sr. pleaded guilty to the felony DWI charge in August 2024 and was sentenced to five years on probation. He also had to complete 160 hours of community service and enroll in a DWI class. Patrick Sr.’s license was also temporarily suspended. The judge noted that if Patrick Sr. did not adhere to these terms, he could risk a 10-year jail sentence.

“Our client is now living a sober life, and we believe that the steps he has taken to better his life have helped us negotiate a plea recommendation for probation,” Patrick Sr.’s lawyer shared in a statement. Us also confirmed that he served a 10-day sentence starting in October 2024.

Patrick Jr. reflected on his dad’s arrest and how he was impacted days before the Super Bowl in ESPN’s The Kingdom in August 2025.

“It became a story, and so, I had to answer questions about it,” the NFL quarterback recalled at the time. “I think just knowing that it hurt me woke him up to know that like, you can’t keep doing the same things.”

Patrick Sr. noted that it was “embarrassing” for his son to “have to answer questions” about his actions.

“I called [Patrick] right after and I told him, I said, ‘I’m sorry that it’s taking away from your time and taking away from your focus,’” Patrick Sr. added in the docuseries, admitting that he “never really thought” that he had a problem with alcohol.

“It was just something that I’ve always done, just something that’s in the game. I went out, partied a little bit, wasn’t always where I was supposed to be,” Patrick Sr. added, explaining that he took advantage of his “fair share” of “privileges” while being in the sports world. (Patrick Sr. played in the MLB for 11 seasons, from 1992 to 2003.)

Patrick Sr. was first arrested on DWI charges in March 2012 and again that September. His third charge came in April 2018, with a fourth DWI arrest coming in November of that year. He was jailed following his fifth DWI arrest in March 2019.
