President Donald Trump gave an update on Tiger Woods just days after the pro golfer’s DUI arrest.
“I think he’s doing great, he’s doing good,” Trump, 79, told the New York Post while speaking to reporters on Tuesday, March 31.
Trump and Woods, 50, have known each other for years, with Trump calling him a “very close friend.” Woods is also dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
“He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he is under a tremendous physical pressure from his various ailments, you know, the back and the leg,” the President continued. “He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy. He’s an amazing athlete. He does have pain.”
He clarified that while Woods “doesn’t have an alcohol problem,” he “does have pain.”
The President’s comments come days after Woods was involved in a rollover car accident in Jupiter Island, Florida on Friday, March 27. He was charged with a DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Though Woods submitted to a breathalyzer test, which showed he had not consumed alcohol, he refused a urinalysis.
An arrest affidavit obtained by Us Weekly said that the five-time Masters winner had two hydrocodone pills in his pocket at the time and that he was “lethargic and slow,” with eyes that were “bloodshot and glassy” with “extremely dilated” pupils.
He told police that he lost control of his car when he was looking at his phone and changing the radio station. The distraction prevented him from noticing that the vehicle in front of him had slowed down before the collision.
Neither Woods nor Vanessa, 48, have addressed the incident publicly, though Vanessa reshared some of her daughter Kai’s photos via Instagram over the weekend, showing off Kai’s time at the Miami Open.
The couple first confirmed their relationship in March 2025 when Woods posted photos of the two of them together via social media.
“Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side!” he captioned the post. “We look forward to our journey through life together. At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts.”
The pair also received the President’s blessing that same month.
“Tiger actually called me a few months ago,” he told reporters. “And he told me about it, and I said, ‘Tiger, that’s good, that’s good.’ I’m very happy for both. Let them both be happy. Let them both be happy. They’re both great.”
