The Rams are days away from their Week 1 showdown against the 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, and have already made a tweak to their roster.
After being placed on the team’s injured reserve list, the Rams cut cornerback Zech McPhearson with an injury settlement agreement.
The agreement allows McPhearson to potentially sign with another team and have the eligibility to play this season. If he stayed with the Rams, he would have remained on the team’s injured reserve.
McPhearson came to the Rams on Aug. 10 and was signed as a potential depth piece who could contribute on special teams.
After failing to make the Rams’ 53-man roster last week, the team placed him on injured reserve for an undisclosed reason.
McPhearson was originally drafted as a fourth-round pick out of Texas Tech by the Eagles in 2021, spending the first two years of his career with them.
During his time in Philadelphia, he primarily played as a rotational piece at slot cornerback and on special teams.
In his second season, McPhearson and the Eagles went to the Super Bowl. The following summer, McPhearson’s third year came to an abrupt end after he tore his Achilles.
McPhearson has not appeared in an NFL regular-season game since he played for the Eagles. He spent last season on the Jaguars’ practice squad.
