In the city of Cincinnati, there is a famous fast-food chain found nowhere else.
Skyline Chili is known to many as one of the best local fast-food restaurants in the USA.
With the Cincinnati Reds coming to Citi Field for a three-game set, the Mets decided to honor that by selling a limited-edition Skyline Chili egg roll.
The Reds’ broadcasting crew decided to try the dish to see how it compares to the original Skyline, with Jim Day landing the assignment.
Unfortunately for Citi Field, the review was not glowing.
“This is the lowest point of my career, and I have had some low ones,” Day said. “This is below mid.”
The egg roll was so bad that Day kept his review rather short, so it was up to play-by-play announcer John Sadak to fill in the blanks.
“So his review was: Um, um. I would like to apologize to Mom. I will give it one more try and oof.” Sadak said. “Then, he called it the lowest point of his career.”
For the commentators, the night wouldn’t get much better for their team as the Reds lost to the Mets 4-2.
Outfielders Juan Soto and Carson Benge were clutch at the plate, driving in three of the four runs.
Soto got the scoring started early with a first-inning solo shot.
Benge’s two RBI singles helped keep the Reds at bay.
Cincinnati had its chance to stun the New York crowd in the ninth inning when they had bases loaded with only one out while trailing 4-2.
Mets closer Devin Williams struggled to find the strike zone, surrendering three walks to the first four batters, but he regained composure and struck out the last two batters to secure the victory.
The Mets, who snapped a five-game losing streak, will start a home series Friday against the Marlins, who swept them in Miami last weekend.
