Health and Human Services Secretary designee Robert F. Kennedy Jr. isn’t just after pursuing a dramatic overhaul of the nation’s food and health policies — he’s also on a quest to uncover what he believes are concealed truths about his uncle’s murder, according to a new report.
Back in August, when President-elect Donald Trump welcomed Kennedy’s endorsement, the GOP kingpin vowed that he’d release “all of the remaining documents pertaining to the assassination of John F. Kennedy.”
Over recent weeks, Kennedy, who has the incoming president’s ear, pushed for his daughter-in-law and former campaign manager Amaryllis Fox Kennedy to serve as the CIA’s deputy director, Axios reported.
“RFK believes that and wants to get to the bottom of it,” a source told the outlet, indicating that he believes Fox Kennedy would help ascertain the truth about the assassination of his uncle in 1963.
During his last administration, Trump oversaw the public disclosure of thousands of files on John F. Kennedy, in keeping with the 1992 Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act.
That act set a 2017 deadline to release all outstanding material on JFK. However, Trump delayed the full release to October 2021, which got pushed back again by the Biden administration.
Well over 95% of the CIA’s records pertaining to the JFK assassination have been released so far, CNN previously reported.
This time around, however, Trump has indicated that he will go full-steam ahead with transparency on those files and has pledged to establish “a new independent presidential commission on assassination attempts” to further that objective.
Prior government investigations have found that assassin Lee Harvey Oswald acted on his own when he shot the former president in the head on Nov. 22, 1963, in Dallas. RFK Jr. has peddled unproven theories that the CIA had a hand in his uncle’s murder.
“The evidence is overwhelming that the CIA was involved in the murder and in the cover-up,” the Kennedy scion told a podcast in May 2023.
He similarly posited that there is “convincing” and “circumstantial” evidence that the spy agency was involved in the assassination of his father in 1968.
Fox Kennedy has also raised similar theories.
Trump has tapped his former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe to helm the CIA. But the No. 2 role of deputy director of the CIA is still up for grabs.
There had been some jockeying behind the scenes for that role, including by former Trump administration official Cliff Sims, Politico reported.
Fox Kennedy claims to have worked for the CIA between 2002 and 2010 after having been inspired to join in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
She later penned a 2019 memoir, “Life Undercover: Coming of Age in the CIA,” detailing her time working as an officer under “nonofficial cover” without diplomatic protections.
The release of that book stirred controversy within the CIA cause she didn’t have the backing of the CIA’s Publication Review Board, NBC News reported.
She is married to RFK Jr.’s son, Robert F. Kennedy III.
RFK Jr. is set to make the rounds with senators on Capitol Hill for at least four days next week to shore up support for his forthcoming nomination to helm HHS.
The Post previously attempted to make contact with Fox Kennedy about reports that her father-in-law is vouching for her to serve as the CIA deputy director.
A spokesperson for RFK Jr. declined to comment.
