Bah! Humbug!

Well, here he goes, again, throwing bilge where everyone else is throwing bouquets of flowers. But a week after Rickey Henderson’s death, enough of the notion-as-fact nonsense. He was not the “greatest baserunner in history.”

He was “The Game’s greatest base stealer” — a big difference from the pursuit of winning games, something Henderson didn’t much display unless it was coincidental.

But nonsense has a way of being repeated, then clinging, then becoming legend until it’s taken for granite.
