Groceries keep getting pricier — and shopping for a whole family doesn’t make it easier.
But one thrifty mom has discovered an easy hack that can help get your grocery bill down to just about $60 per week — without writing a list.
TikTok user @laurenbische, a mom of one, explained how just one app — ChatGPT — can change the way you shop for food.
“As we all know, food shopping has become extortionate, like the prices of food are outrageous and people are trying to make money stretch,” she said of her solution to ask the artificial intelligence software to put together a meal plan within a certain amount of money for a specific grocery store.
To demonstrate, she typed in: “Please can you give a meal plan for five days with £50 [about $60] budget in Aldi?”
She revealed the screenshots of the response from ChatGPT, which included a full five-day breakdown for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack, providing the ingredients list and how much it would cost.
It also gave a shopping list at the end with all the ingredients needed and divided into meal categories.
The mom added that you can also ask for directions for cooking meals, and ChatGPT can even provide information on your calorie intake, among other particulars.
Many people in the comments were shocked that they didn’t know about the life hack.
“I’m trying to eat a lot more healthier this year so I’m defo going to try this,” one person said.
“Done a meal prep using it, but didn’t know you could get a breakdown of the costs,” another shared.
“That’s brilliant, I didn’t know this existed,” someone wrote.
“Ooh this is amazing! We’re a family of 7, so always looking for ways to help with our food shopping budgets!” one happy homemaker added.
