Democratic Sen. John Fetterman described GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz’s attorney general nomination as a “god-tier” level of trolling by President-elect Donald Trump to “own the libs in perpetuity.”

Trump, 78, selected Gaetz (R-Fla.) to lead the US Department of Justice on Wednesday, in a move that stunned lawmakers in his own party.

When asked about the eyebrow-raising pick, Fetterman (D-Pa.) quipped that it was a master chess move by the former president.

“I mean, I would describe it as god-tier level trolling, that has triggered a full-on China Syndrome to own the libs in perpetuity,” Fetterman told an NBC reporter in a clip that has gone viral on X.

Elon Musk — who was recently appointed to Trump’s newly created Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE — shared Fetterman’s reaction on his own X page.

“Amazing,” Musk wrote of the video, along with the laughing face emoji.

Fetterman went on to say that Democrats’ opinions on Gaetz’s nomination are “not really what’s interesting.”

“The good ones are going to come by my colleagues on the other side, the GOP, on how they can justify voting for that j—off,” he added, according to Fox News.

Trump’s choice of Gaetz, 42, for the AG job shocked members of both parties.

“I was shocked at the nomination,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) told Punchbowl News. “This is why the Senate’s advise-and-consent process is so important. I’m sure that there will be many, many questions raised at Mr. Gaetz’s hearing.”

“Are you s—ting me?” Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) also told the Huffington Post when pressed for his reaction.

Gaetz resigned immediately from the House after Trump’s announcement, which reportedly came before a Friday vote on whether to release a House Ethics Committee report related to allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use involving the now-former congressman.

Gaetz’s resignation will end the investigation that started in April 2021.
