Kody Brown doesn’t think church is a “safe place” for him after going through three divorces — but he’s also not a fan of wife Robyn Brown attending solo, either.

“When I met Kody, he was very much involved in our church and from my understanding he was happy in our church,” Robyn, 46, said during the Sunday, December 15, episode of Sister Wives, reflecting on where the couple stands within their church congregation. “I mean, I wouldn’t have probably considered marrying him if I didn’t think he was.”

Robyn, who is Kody’s fourth wife, explained that when their family went public with their polygamist lifestyle it changed things for her husband, 55.

“I think really, the way that our church reacted to that really, kind of, threw him off, and it made him feel just like, ‘Wait, what the heck?’” she recalled.

Kody agreed, telling the cameras, “I found that my faith started to contradict the religionist attitudes, sort of the gatekeepers.” He added that once the church started telling him to cut his hair or act a certain way, it was a turnoff.

After splitting from wives Christine, Janelle, and Meri Brown in 2021, 2022 and 2023, respectively, Kody’s distance from the church only grew. Robyn, however, told her spouse on Sunday’s episode that she wants to go back.

“I want to come sooner or later,” Kody told Robyn, who said she and their eldest daughters want to try out new places of worship.

Kody then teased, “Well, you don’t want to go too long without me, because I don’t want some guy thinking you’re a single mom.”

The patriarch explained to viewers that “there’s a lot of men interested in Robyn,” who were “sort of trying to get around me and to her.” The situation, he admitted, worries him.

“Because the first time I saw you in our church, we made that gaze, that connection,” Kody recalled to Robyn, who teased that she was the one who made the gaze.

Kody insisted, “Oh, no, no, no, no. I looked longer. By the time you looked away, I actually said, ‘That was probably inappropriate. She is most likely married.’”

He got a big smile on his face before asking Robyn to recount what it was like seeing him more than a decade ago in church. “I want to know that God has been my wingman with you and that nobody can take you away,” Kody said.

Robyn gushed over their connection as well, saying, “I was sitting there with my cousin. I was looking around. I looked at you for a while.”

She remembered seeing Kody’s “laugh lines, because I love laugh lines. And then you looked at me in a bolt of lightning shots for my body.”

Robyn later told the cameras that although she first saw Kody at church, it wasn’t until a month later that she “randomly” met him and first wife Meri, 53, on their lawn.

Kody and Robyn concluded their conversation by Kody saying he doesn’t want “some guy” holding her “gaze” while she’s worshiping in his absence. “I’m mate guarding now,” Kody said. “I’m protecting the pride.”

Robyn reassured her husband that she’d wear her wedding ring and tell everyone she’s off the market.

Sister Wives airs on TLC Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
