By the pricking of my thumbs, something “Wicked” this way comes…
Successor to the coveted role of Elphaba — originated in “Wicked” on Broadway by Idina Menzel in 2003 — Cynthia Erivo has taken up the mantle in the long-awaited film adaptation. Channeling the witchy woman across red carpets and the occasional yellow brick road, the Broadway star and Oscar nominee (“Harriet”) hasn’t wasted a moment.
As a prelude to the current mania, Erivo’s custom Louis Vuitton look for the Paris Olympics deserves a tip of the hat. A brand ambassador for the French fashion house, Erivo made her one short day in the Emerald City count.
In October, the actress went with one-of-a-kind gothic Rodarte for the CFDA awards, and cast a spell in a magical minty gown — also custom Louis Vuitton — at the 2024 Academy Museum Gala. Another October moment, Erivo in Erdem for the 2024 WSJ Innovator Awards was so good we were practically green with envy.
At the film’s first official premiere in Australia, Erivo looked “wicked” — to borrow the Aussie meaning — in a third Louis Vuitton dress, while co-star Ariana Grande wore a Vivienne Westwood Glinda gown.
The Wicked Witch of the West (Coast) was in attendance at the LA premiere, where Erivo embraced the limelight in more LV. Heading south for the Mexico City premiere, Erivo sprouted some talons in a fantastical Thom Browne creation, which was fabulous enough to warrant a maniacal laugh or two.
Lastly, Erivo checked her broomstick at the door for the New York City premiere, where she donned custom Christian Dior, including a structured skirt, a delicate veil and a set of villainous talons.
