The Spice Girls’ Melanie Chisholm is proving that friendship never ends… especially not over bandmate Geri Halliwell wearing white to her wedding.
Chisholm wed longtime love Chris Dingwall in Cumbria, England, last month, wearing a white wedding dress designed by former bandmate Victoria Beckham. While Beckham wasn’t able to attend, Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel B were all there to celebrate their friend.
However, after British Vogue shared pictures from the ceremony, fans noticed that Halliwell, 54, was also in white.
“I did have a little chat with Geri… it is her favorite color,” Chisholm, 52, said in a recent interview with Australian radio station KIIS 1065.
Chisholm added, “She wears it every day. But she had a beautiful floral dress on, and it was white. I did have a little giggle with her about that.”
As for Beckham, Chisholm said that the fashion designer was already committed to attending the FIFA World Cup soccer final with her husband, David Beckham, and couldn’t make the ceremony.
“Victoria was very disappointed to not be there,” Chisholm said. “She was with David in New York, and it was the football final, the World Cup. She tried to get out of it. She isn’t the biggest football fan in the world, she won’t mind me telling you. But the family were there and David had commitments, being an ambassador for FIFA.”
“But, of course, she made my gorgeous dress, and she was messaging me on the day. We were giving her updates and sending her pictures [from the wedding],” the singer said. “I actually saw her when I was in Ibiza [after the wedding]. So we had a little catchup.”
Chisholm wore a lace cami dress from Beckham’s eponymous fashion house at a legal wedding ceremony in Dingwall’s native Australia. Beckham later designed a bespoke outfit for Chisholm’s Cumbria wedding.
“I was actually having dinner with Melanie and asked her what she was up to. She very casually told me she was leaving for Australia in two days and getting married!” Beckham told British Vogue in July. “When I asked what she was wearing, she mentioned she had actually ordered one of my dresses but that it didn’t quite fit, and she didn’t have time to get it altered before leaving. I happened to have that exact dress in my own wardrobe and offered to lend it to her.”
For her U.K. celebration, Beckham designed a new version of the silk cami just for her former bandmate.
“Victoria wanted to make it much more personal to me. She found some gorgeous vintage lace, and everything was really delicately dyed to the perfect shade. It’s very flattering, open at the back,” Chisholm told Vogue.
