Let’s stop with the CM Punk hate.

Too much of the discourse this week was about Punk turning into The Rock and everything he hated in 2013 when the “Brahma Bull” swept in from Hollywood to beat him for the WWE championship and headline WrestleMania 29 to put over John Cena during a short run. It was his last until WrestleMania 40. The Rock was away from WWE for seven years before his return in 2011.

Still others — even MJF in a since-deleted Instagram post — pointed to Hulk Hogan getting Vince McMahon to call an audible and put the WWE championship on him in a wild finish to WrestleMania IX. Hogan was away from WWE for nearly a year before that and departed again shortly after.

Punk even seemed to know what was coming before he beat Sami Zayn, just nine days into his reign, for the WWE championship in a hell of a Raw main event in Chicago on Monday night. The Best in the World started doing the Hogan ear to the crowd as he stepped in the ring on home turf at the Allstate Arena.
