Here comes the ̶ ̶b̶r̶i̶d̶e̶ angry bridesmaid.
A wedding guest was left feeling “incredibly embarrassed” after a bridesmaid asked her to leave the reception because her yellow dress looked white under black lights.
The unexpected incident was recently shared on Reddit’s “Am I the a–hole?” board with a woman asking if she was in the wrong for not “respecting etiquette.”
Over the summer, the guest claimed she wore a “bumble bee yellow” ruffle tiered dress that looked similar to the one Belle wore in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” Initially, she “did not question if it was appropriate.”
“I arrive at the wedding, we have the ceremony, the cocktail hour, the dinner and the reception. I get many compliments on the dress and the bride even comments on how much she loves it several times,” the Reddit user wrote.
Things took a turn at the dance party during the end of reception when the venue dimmed the normal lights and flashed on black lights that made her yellow dress appear “more white than yellow.”
A bridesmaid, who was a family member, noticed the transformed outfit under the black lights and called out her “white” dress, describing it as “inappropriate.”
“I stated that the dress was yellow but the blacklights were making it appear white. The member of the wedding party stated that if I didn’t leave she would ‘make me,’” the Reddit user added.
During the “tense” debate, the guest repeatedly insisted that her dress was yellow and not white and eventually the bridesmaid walked up to the groom and “angrily” pointed at her but the new husband ignored the drama and kept dancing.
But the criticism didn’t end that evening.
“The next morning I was approached by a different friend at breakfast (not in the wedding party) who stated that they heard what happened and that I should have left when asked because it made people ‘uncomfortable’ and that I made it about me ‘partying’ rather than ‘respecting wedding etiquette,’” the guest complained.
The entire ordeal left her very self-conscious so she asked social media users if she was the a–hole for not leaving the wedding when she was told to.
The majority of online commenters agreed that she was not doing anything wrong.
One person wrote that the dispute was “ridiculous” because nobody actually checks their attire under black lights to make sure they don’t upstage the bride.
Another suggested they should have just turned off the black lights so this wouldn’t be an issue.
“Pretty fancy dress for a wedding guest. I’m sure it looked exactly like a wedding dress in the black light,” a user stated.
The woman had seen the bride and groom since their wedding and none of them mentioned anything about her outfit so she wondered if the bridesmaid “was just being protective and doing what she thought was right.”
