Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky warned President Trump Wednesday that he had chosen “the wrong side” by agreeing to import diesel fuel from Russia — which Zelensky said had handed Russian President Vladimir Putin an “easy victory.”
“It’s painful when President Trump chooses one side, not our side,” Zelensky told “Piers Morgan Uncensored”. “But we are okay that he’s in the middle. But if you’re in the middle, you have to stay in the middle. Not on the wrong side.”
“I think his advisers are wrong. I don’t know who is pushing him. Not to the right side, this is not the right side of history,” he added.
In the heated half-hour interview, Zelensky said the move is a sign the US doesn’t support his war-torn country — declaring, “It is a pity that we are losing a strong partner.”
Zelensky also accused SpaceX boss Elon Musk of restricting Ukrainian access to the Starlink internet system, which Kyiv officials said had disrupted key military operations.
“I am sure they knew what they did, absolutely,” he said. “Because it was 1 a.m. at night, [when] Starlink was blocked by SpaceX and the United States.”
“It’s not just about attack. It’s also about defending life,” Zelensky added. “So people were killed because, not enough destroying, not enough interceptors, including interceptors with Starlink, which didn’t work. Of course.”
Ukrainian officials alleged Wednesday that Kyiv’s access to a military version of Elon Musk’s Starlink internet system was limited without warning, interrupting combat drone operations while Russian forces launched a fresh round of attacks on civilian targets.
Asked if he was angry with Musk over the stunted service, he said, “Yes, I think he is not right.”
“It’s a big mistake. I don’t know him or somebody pushed him to, I don’t know really,” he said.
“It’s a big mistake…This decision will bring a lot of human losses… Of course, people will die. Of course, if attacks will continue and if Starlink will not work, it’s not helpful,” he said.
“So my message is absolutely, I hope that it’s a mistake, maybe a huge technical problem, I don’t know. But we are asking to do it, to switch it on.”
Zelensky said he also felt betrayed when President Trump announced an energy ceasefire and diesel deal with Putin last week.
“Our country has to survive, and we count on our real partners, strategic partners, the United States and President Trump. They wanted us not to attack. My opinion was, it is not fair, an energy ceasefire is okay, it’s understandable,” Zelensky said.
“It’s the worst version of peace. But anyway, it’s some step to peace. So de-escalation, an energy ceasefire… of course, we support it because we need our people to live, to go through this winter and to stop the war. This is what we want,” he said.
“But he said about energy ceasefire and we didn’t attack during three days — any kind of energy objects. We didn’t, not just attack, we didn’t respond… They attacked us, our gas stations, infrastructure, etc.”
On Friday, Trump announced a deal with Putin for Russia to immediately supply more than 300,000 metric tons of diesel to US and global markets.
