The 49ers have had two players that have been shot within the last two years.
It’s starting to become a regular thing for San Francisco, according to defensive lineman Keion White. The 27-year-old discussed him being the victim of a shooting following Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium.
“It’s different because it’s trauma instead of just breaking an ankle (on the field),” White said. “Football players don’t just get shot every day.
“I mean, I guess they do on this team.”
White is the second 49ers player to be shot in San Francisco. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot through the chest in a robbery attempt on Aug. 31, 2024. The Florida product missed the first six games of his rookie season because of the injury, but recovered fully.
White is active and available for the 49ers in Week 1, but it’s clear the incident was traumatic based on his remarks. The veteran reportedly had an argument with rapper Lil Baby at Mission Street nightclub in San Francisco, which led to White being shot in front of several people including multiple strippers.
The 49ers have had one of the unluckiest offseasons any NFL team has had to endure.
White was a victim of shooting, head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a horrific car accident and 49ers owner Jed York was arrested in a prostitution sting.
There’s nothing that sugarcoats the rollercoaster offseason for the 49ers, but they’ll have to manage to keep their heads on straight as San Francisco faces the Los Angeles Rams in a Week 1 showdown Sept. 10.
