Dennis Rodman posted a public apology to his daughter, USWNT star Trinity Rodman, after she said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that he is an absentee father and an alcoholic.
Taking to his Instagram on Thursday, the four-time NBA champ explained that he’s been stopped from trying to see Trinity and he won’t stop trying to connect with her.
“Sorry I wasn’t the Dad you wanted me to be but either way I still tried and I still Try and Never will Stop,” Rodman wrote, including a video that showed photos of them through the years. “I will keep Trying even when you’re being told as an adult not to respond to my phone calls. I will try even when it’s difficult and if it takes a long time. I’m always here And tell you all the time rather it’s your voice or voicemail how proud I am. I always had one wish and it was I wish my kids would call me and come see me. Hopefully one day I can get that. I’m here and I’m still trying pick up the phone you have my number, You see me calling, I’m still here Dennis RODMAN- Dad.
“FYI: I watch you play All the time😊 (actually flew in to watch you play and was told not to show up bc who I was with instead and me just wanting to support you So I watched you from my hotel balcony just to make everybody happy. I love All My Kids,” Rodman concluded, adding the hashtags, “untold’ and “[stories].”
Rodman is father to Trinity and her brother Dennis Rodman Jr., 23, from his marriage with Michelle Moyer.
He has a daughter, Alexis, 36, from his first marriage with Annie Bakes.
Rodman’s apology came after Trinity discussed their family issues during an appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast Wednesday.
“We had an expedition and we kind of lived in that for a little bit,” Trinity told host Alex Cooper, who mentioned that some might assume money wasn’t an issue for her growing up. “We tried to live with him but he’s having parties 24/7, he is bringing random b–ches in. He loves the spotlight. He loves the cameras.”
Rodman was known for his wild partying lifestyle — including his marriage to model Carmen Electra in Las Vegas that lasted just a few months.
Trinity called Rodman “an alcoholic” and went on to explain that he changes his phone number often and will only use a flip phone.
The Washington Spirit forward also recalled the moment she “lost hope in ever getting him back,” when he didn’t contact her for years after he surprised her at a Spirit victory during an NWSL playoff game in November 2021.
The pair shared a hug after the game, with Trinity crying in his arms while they were surrounded by cameras.
Trinity said that that moment made her father look good in the media because it made it seem like he was a supportive father — but he didn’t speak to her for years after that.
Trinity, who’s fairly private about her relationship with her father, said she had a lot of pent-up anger from staying quiet for so long in order to protect his image.
“We never want to make him look bad, and that is at the cost of kind of holding it in a lot,” she said. “I guess it’s just like the anger that I haven’t really been able to let out is difficult for me.”
