A landlord is charging over $1,650 for a room in a London apartment — with strict rules which mean the occupant can’t spend time in the lounge or have guests over.
The listing – posted by a live-in landlord on the flatshare site Spare Room – is looking for a “quiet, clean and friendly” lodger to occupy their other bedroom in the Hampstead Heath area.
The successful applicant will have access to the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, but crucially not the lounge.
This is because the landlord says they “work long hours” from the lounge and as such is not available for use.
As such, the listing states that the room would be suitable for someone who isn’t around much during the day and works “longish hours in the city”.
Despite not being allowed access to the living room, the occupant is still expected to pay full whack for all bills – including internet, water, electricity, gas, council tax and a fortnightly cleaner.
While asking any potential lodger to be “quiet”, the landlord states they will be conducting violin lessons for over four hours every evening four days a week and that the flat sits right next to an overground line.
The landlord also goes on to say that the lodger will not be permitted to bring any guests to the flat.
The listing says: “I’m looking for a quiet, clean and friendly person to looge here.
“You will have use of the kitchen, bathroom and your bedroom.
“I work long hours from the living room so this area is not avalable for use.
“This space would ideally suit someone working longish hours in the city”
It goes on to say: “Please note: The flat sits right next to the overground line and you can hear the trains from the flat.
“I am also teaching the violin here in the evenings from 4-8.30pm Mon-Thurs, whilst this takes place on a different floor to the bedroom l am offering, it would be audible, so please bear this in mind before applying for the room.”
The listing has since been removed.
