Nicole Kidman has added another skill to her repertoire — and it’s quite unexpected.
“I can do an autopsy,” Kidman, 58, declared while promoting her upcoming show Scarpetta during the Monday, March 2, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“Are you method, Nicole Kidman?” host Jimmy Fallon asked, to which Kidman responded, “Yes, I am.”
Kidman explained that she completely embraced the role of forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scarpetta, down to the finest and most gory details.
“I can remove all the organs,” the Lioness actress further remarked about performing fake autopsies on the series. “I can name them all.”
Kidman claimed that Fallon, 51, asked her whether she was “willing” to perform an autopsy on The Tonight Show, which he denied. Kidman doubled down, saying that Fallon’s team reached out to her about it and she thought it was a serious inquiry.
“Unless I misunderstood. Maybe it was on a dummy or something, but either way,” she quipped. “I can remove the lungs and the liver and the gallbladder and the intestines.”
Fallon asked Kidman how she learned about the human body and postmortem examinations so quickly. “Because it’s part of the job, and I worked with an incredible medical examiner, and I studied him,” she revealed.
Kidman serves as an executive producer on Scarpetta, which also stars Rosy McEwen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Amanda Righetti, Ariana DeBose, Savannah Lumar, Bobby Cannavale, Jake Cannavale, Simon Baker and Hunter Parrish. Sosie Bacon, Charlie B. Foster, Janet Montgomery, Stephanie Faracy, Georgia King, Mike Vogel, Tiya Sircar, Anna Diop and Graham Phillips are also set to appear.
“It’s a medical examiner who is coming back to her job after 30 years, and there’s a parallel story of the two crimes that have happened in present day and 30 years ago,” Kidman teased. “That’s the beginning, and then there’s all the family drama. If you like crime thrillers, which there is a ton of people out there who like crime.”
Scarpetta is based on the book series of the same name by Patricia Cornwell.
“As Scarpetta pursues justice, she must navigate complicated relationships, including the fraught dynamic with her sister Dorothy Farinelli, confront long-held professional and personal grudges, and face secrets that threaten to unravel everything she’s built,” the show’s official logline reads.
The thriller is just one of Kidman’s many projects she’s been working on following her divorce from Keith Urban. Kidman has been kept busy with Practical Magic 2, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Big Little Lies season 3, Lioness season 3, Girls and Their Horses and has more currently in the works. (The actress and Urban, 58, finalized their divorce in January after 19 years of marriage. They share two daughters, Sunday, 17, and Faith, 15.)
“Don’t mess with Nicole Kidman. She’s the best at every single thing. You are just awesome,” Fallon praised Kidman for always immersing herself in her work.
Scarpetta premieres March 11 on Amazon Prime Video.
