Alex Accetta, the wife of Alabama men’s basketball’s head coach Nate Oats, rejoined the Crimson Tide staff as the director of program relations, the school announced Thursday in a press release.
Accetta, who married Oats in July, previously worked with the basketball program in 2015 as a student assistant before being promoted to operations coordinator in 2017 and then director of basketball operations in 2021.
Oats, 51, and Accetta, 31, were married after he quietly divorced his previous wife, Crystal Oats, in 2023 after 26 years.
Oats and Accetta got engaged in April.
Accetta returns to Tuscaloosa after four seasons with the Mavericks working with guest experience and business operations (2022-23 through 2025-26 seasons).
In her role as director of program relations, Accetta will be reporting to executive deputy AD/chief operating officer and men’s basketball sport administrator Shane Lyons.
“Alex has an extensive background and proven success in this space at both the collegiate and professional levels,” Lyons said in the release. “With her previous experience, she has a strong understanding of our program and what it takes to effectively operate at the highest competitive levels.
“She returns to Alabama basketball after four seasons with the NBA Dallas Mavericks, and we expect her professional franchise experience and insights to continue to advance all we do.”
Oats has been the head basketball coach at Alabama since March 2019.
Following the 2025-26 season, Oats received a contract extension that is set to keep him at the helm of the program through the 2032 season.
Oats and his ex-wife, who married in 1997, have three daughters: Lexie, Jocelyn and Brielle.
