Millions of New Yorkers will soon cash in on some more green.
As the colder months creep back in, Gothamites are in line to score checks from the state’s Energy Affordability Program (EAP). The program offers financial relief to households who meet the income levels.
Eligible residents can grab payments up to $500 to help with electric and utility bills that are applied directly to your monthly bills. The size of your EAP discount is based on your household income — but some families save up to hundreds of dollars per year on their utility costs.
Gov Kathy Hochul is urging New Yorkers to grab their cash as millions of residents don’t realize they are eligible for checks after the program was expanded in January.
“Right now, 2.5 million eligible New Yorkers are leaving money on the table and I’m on a mission to help keep the lights on and costs down by launching an all-of-government push to get them enrolled in this money-saving program,” Gov. Hochul said in a statement. I encourage New Yorkers to take advantage of this opportunity by visiting NY.gov/EAP today.”
One million Empire Staters are already enrolled, but there are still 2.5 million more spot available. New Yorkers who believe they qualify may enroll through their utility provider or visit NY.gov/EAP.
All New York households below state median income — or area median income (AMI) for customers served by Con Edison, National Grid Metro, or National Grid Long Island — are eligible to receive the monthly discounts.
