Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is ready for the challenge of facing Maxx Crosby.
That said, he’d certainly appreciate it if the Raiders star opted against taking the field on Sunday.
McDaniel jokingly told the California Post on Thursday he’d “be cool” if Las Vegas’ top pass rusher “was tired and wanted to take a nap and didn’t play” against the Bolts at SoFi Stadium.
McDaniel, though, knows that’s certainly not going to happen, and he said he and his team are embracing the opportunity of trying to stop one of the NFL’s best.
“Excited to go compete against him,” McDaniel said.
Crosby, who’s back with the Raiders for his eighth year despite a failed trade to the Ravens this offseason, was stellar in Vegas’ Week 1 victory over the Dolphins.
He recorded 1.5 sacks and three quarterback hits, and McDaniel made it clear on Thursday the dominance was noticed.
“It takes a group of people to stop a player of his caliber,” McDaniel said of Crosby. “He’s one of the rare ones.”
McDaniel added that as their matchup with the Raiders progresses this weekend, Crosby will always be in his “periphery.”
[He’s a] remarkable player that I think plays the game the way it should be,” McDaniel said. “Which is all in, relentless.”
