SAN FRANCISCO — For the second time in four years, Aaron Judge and the Yankees will play the Giants on Opening Day, this time in San Francisco on Wednesday.
And while longtime scout and executive Brian Sabean has had a front row seat to the Aaron Judge Show since returning to the Yankees early in 2023 as an advisor to general manager Brian Cashman, he and his staff had a chance to draft him in 2013, when the Giants selected 25th overall.
Sabean, then the GM of the Giants, and his staff picked Christian Arroyo, while the Yankees went with third baseman Eric Jagielo with the next pick (No. 26) before selecting Judge at 32.
All these years later — and entering his fourth season on the same side as Judge — Sabean was asked this spring whether San Francisco thought about taking the 6-foot-7 slugger out of Fresno State, who grew up in northern California.
