She put the P in GOP.
Convention-goers gasped Friday after an elephant relieved itself as it strolled through the assembly hall at a Texas Republican Party gathering.
Gov. Greg Abbott had just finished his keynote at the Texas GOP convention in Houston when the Paige, a 9-foot-tall and nearly 9,000 pound African elephant, made a surprise entrance.
Paige promptly urinated in the aisle between the press area and state delegates, according to several reporters who posted video of the incident on social media.
“Oh, shoot!” a stunned onlooker cried as the elephant widened her stance and emptied her tank while Brooks & Dunn’s “Only in America” blared in the background.
An adult African elephant can void up to 3 gallons of urine in a single session, and after what seemed like that amount of pee cascaded onto the convention floor, Paige nonchalantly went on her way, led by her handlers.
The elephant was adorned in red, white and blue regalia and draped in a banner bearing Abbott’s campaign slogan, “Unity Drives Victory.”
Paige, who lives at the East Texas Elephant Experience in Cut & Shoot, Texas, was brought to the US in the mid-eighties as an orphan, according to her bio. She is the biggest of the facility’s three pachyderms.
Convention organizers teased a “larger-than-life surprise,” prior to Paige’s entrance.
A “Texas-sized heads-up” on one of the convention screens warned the crowd to “stay aware of your surroundings” and “keep aisles clear.”
“It smells like p— in here,” Robert Downen, a writer for Texas Monthly, complained after the incident.
Abbott, who is seeking a fourth-term as Texas governor, called for closed primaries in the state, a ban on taxpayer-funded lobbying and he urged the Legislature to regulate data centers, lower property taxes and take a hard line on immigration during his keynote address.
The Texas GOP did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
