Former NFL player and TV personality Damien Woody shared a surprising health update with fans in an Instagram post on Sunday.
The former Jets offensive lineman, who left ESPN two months ago, revealed that he has been hospitalized after having his appendix and part of his colon removed following a colonoscopy.
“Want to give folks a health update,” Woody wrote. “Had a colonoscopy and from that have been hospitalized after having had my appendix and part of my colon removed. I want to thank all the doctors and nurses at Morristown Medical Center for the tremendous care I received. For the masses…mmm please get your checkups! Life is too short and too precious.”
The former Jets offensive lineman left ESPN two months ago after the network didn’t renew his contract in August. This ended his 15-year tenure as an NFL analyst.
Woody, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Patriots, did not have his ESPN contract renewed after it expired in August, ending his 15-year tenure with the network.
Woody is now part of “The OG Football Show” on YouTube with fellow former ESPNers Trey Wingo, Mark Schlereth and Merril Hoge.
Woody announced his retirement from the NFL on July 26, 2011. Less than two weeks later, he made his ESPN debut. Over the years, Woody grew as an on-air personality and became a key contributor on “SportsCenter,” “NFL Live,” “Get Up,” “First Take” and other ESPN programs.
“Being a guy who had a serious speech impediment to working on tv was truly one of my proudest accomplishments. Looking forward to what God has in store for me next!” Woody said about his departure.
