WASHINGTON — A top aide to Democratic socialist DC mayoral candidate Janeese Lewis George fan-girled over Luigi Mangione after his arrest for allegedly executing a healthcare exec, The Post can reveal.
Makia Green — a longtime adviser and now political director for George, a New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani-wannabe — posted on Threads on Dec. 11, 2024, “Comment when you see this #freeluigi and pardon the youth!”
Cops had arrested Mangione at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pa., just two days earlier after a frenzied five-day, multistate manhunt for the 28-year-old suspect, who allegedly gunned down United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in cold blood on a Manhattan sidewalk.
A few days after her Dec. 11 post, Green shared a list on her Threads profile titled, “Things that piss me off” — which included “United health care” and a video of her flipping off the company for not helping her connect easily with a primary-care physician.
Twisted lefties have defended Mangione as a Robin Hood-esque folk hero who took on the health-care industry. Some local chapters of the Democratic Socialists of America — whose national organization endorsed George — have even not condemned the murder.
Mangione goes on trial Sept. 8 for Thompson’s heinous slaying and faces up to life in prison if convicted.
A DC Democratic insider said Green has been a “close confidant” to George and that the posts suggest “an implicit endorsement of all her most absurd and violent political beliefs,” since the staffer remains one of the most highly compensated on George’s campaign payroll.
The newly revealed posts also are the latest indication of George’s far-left tendencies.
Other Democratic sources have dished that her campaign has been “begging” for an endorsement from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani — a nod that has yet to materialize.
Green, a DC activist who founded the prison abolitionist nonprofit Harriet’s Wildest Dreams, previously helped campaign for George to be the next city councilmember for Ward 4 on a platform of defunding the police.
George posted on Twitter, now X, in October 2019, “I will absolutely divest from [DC’s Metropolitan Police Department] and put that money into violence interruption programs. Full stop” — but has dodged addressing her past positions in the mayoral contest.
“My goal is to build more prison abolitionists, to build more supporters of Defund MPD,” said George, a self-described “queer non-binary fat Black liberation organizer” with DC’s left-wing Working Families Party, in a May 2021 interview with The Forge after she became a councilmember that January.
Green also has shared several posts on X that downplayed the terror group Hamas’ atrocities and called Israel an “imaginary state,” Jewish Insider reported, prompting the aide to make her account private.
Notably, George’s public-safety plan for DC as a candidate for mayor pledges to increase enrollment in the police department’s cadet program and expand “resources to detectives to aid in solving more crimes.”
But in an April debate with Democratic primary opponent Kenyan McDuffie, George claimed that the surge of National Guard troops to the nation’s crime-riddled capital has posed “a very real risk of harm” to “our Black youth in this city and to all of our families in this city.”
McDuffie has supported stricter curfews to address “teen takeovers” that have devolved into brawls in some wards, while George rejected that as an option for stopping potential violence and property destruction.
DC crime statistics show that the law-enforcement surge has been successful in drastically reducing homicides, other violent crimes and carjackings.
George leads McDuffie, 36% to 25%, with all other mayoral contestants polling beneath 5 percentage points in the June 16 Democratic primary, according to a Washington Post-Schar School survey conducted between May 27 and June 1.
“If Janeese wins tomorrow, Makia will likely be appointed to a key position in city government for the nation’s capital,” the Dem insider said.
“This is a person who does not believe in the idea of policing or prisons, has deep disdain for the Jewish community, celebrates violence and posts constantly online like your craziest classmate from high school on Facebook.”
Reps for the George campaign did not respond to a Post request for comment.
