A mom was so traumatized by her first pregnancy that she says she “literally developed of phobia” and had her fallopian tubes removed at age 24.
Belle Mourraille, now 28, was bedridden for months and lost 30 pounds while pregnant, and after thinking she was going to die during childbirth, she opted to undergo a salpingectomy so she could rule out the possibility of having another baby.
“I quickly decided after finding out that I was pregnant that I did not want to be tied to a man in that way,” said the Napa, California resident.
“My pregnancy and birth were terrible to the point that I literally developed a phobia of either finding out that I was pregnant, being pregnant or giving birth.
“I would have constant nightmares of any of those things happening and I would wake up traumatized and terrified.”
Pregnancy itself was no picnic, and she says she actually lost a massive amount of weight — though according to the Institute of Medicine and National Research Council, it’s recommended that a woman who is at a healthy weight pre-pregnancy gain 25 to 35 pounds.
Even obese women who have a BMI of 30 or more are recommended to gain 11 to 20 pounds.
“During my pregnancy, I was bedridden the entire time. I lost 30 pounds and all I could eat were Eggo waffles, which sounds great, but they literally have no nutritional benefit, and I felt like absolute s–t,” Belle said.
After having her baby, she underwent a salpingectomy, or fallopian tube removal surgery.
“I got my tubes removed at the age of 24,” she said, adding that she’s aware she’ll never be able to have children again.
“My birth was one of the most traumatizing experiences of my life. I literally thought I was going to die. For the entire time, I was just begging doctors and nurses to please help me and save my life,” she said.
For her, hormonal birth control wasn’t an option.
“Ever since I started birth control at the age of 13, I feel like I have never been the same. No matter what form of birth control I use, I gain weight, my periods are terrible, my hormones are out of whack,” she said.
“In my personal opinion, I think birth control is poisonous.”
Now, the mother of one feels the best she ever has in herself after completely cutting out birth control and her fear of pregnancy has since been wiped.
