Crotch cream for dream skin?
Dr. Shereene Idriss, a board-certified dermatologist, has taken to TikTok to share an unexpected treatment for fine lines and signs of aging.
Idriss eschews the use of facial fillers, telling her patients and 1.1 million followers, “If you have smile lines or wrinkles around your mouth and they really bother you, fillers are not the answer.”
She explained that she never uses filler on herself or her patients because, over time, the popular injections add length to the face and contribute to a “muzzle-y” look.
In addition to using retinol creams, the good doctor had a surprising tip for minimizing lines
“Estrogen cream, especially if you are perimenopausal or postmenopausal, is effective because estrogen holds onto moisture, which will minimize the appearance of the flaccidity of your skin in this area.”
Vaginal estrogen creams like Estrace and Premarin are designed to treat vaginal irritation, dryness, and pain caused by menopause, including but not limited to intercourse.
And apparently, the same goo that makes sex smooth makes skin smooth, too.
When applied to the face, topical estrogen can improve skin by restoring moisture, increasing collagen production, improving firmness and elasticity, and decreasing pore size and wrinkle depth.
An earlier study focused on the topical application of estrogen to aging skin found that after 6 months of treatment, elasticity and firmness had markedly improved, and wrinkle depth and pore size had decreased by 61 to 100%.
Previous research has established a relationship between estrogen levels and overall attractiveness.
In lieu of fillers, Idriss also supports using PRF or platelet-rich fibrin injections for youthful skin.
In addition to being effective, estrogen creams may be a safer route than fillers, which have been linked to a slew of nasty side effects, including real-deal facial melting.
Both PRF and its cousin PRP — or platelet-rich plasma used in the so-called “vampire facial” — employ the patient’s blood to create the rejuvenating concoction, which is then placed in a centrifuge for separation. In theory, the injections have the potential to expedite skin healing, minimize under-eye circles and wrinkles, or even treat hair loss.
One small study published last year found promising results in using PRF to treat acne scarring and boost the texture and elasticity of the skin.
