Dutton Ranch‘s season 1 finale featured a surprise pregnancy, but viewers are confused whether Carter is the father of Oreana’s baby.

Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) took a pregnancy test during the Friday, July 3, episode and hinted that she is expecting with ex Carter (Finn Little). While Oreana didn’t tell Carter the news, they did make plans to leave Texas together. They previously broke up, however, after Oreana flirted with another guy in front of Carter — and told him she had slept with the unnamed man as well.

The finale didn’t have enough time to clarify the paternity because Oreana’s dad, Rob-Will (Jai Courtney), was shot to death by his brother, Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba), before she could leave town. Carter, meanwhile, was kidnapped as revenge against his parents, Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser).

Before the conclusion to season 1, Lind, 26, teased her character Oreana’s journey to motherhood, telling Us Weekly, “My arc is heading in a direction that I am not going to be specific about, but she starts off the season and ends it a completely different person.”

Lind noted that there will be “things that happen that change her life forever.” The actress confirmed that family dynamics would be at the center of the Yellowstone spinoff.

“What I loved about the original Yellowstone so much is the family dynamics,” she noted to Us. “I think that family relationships can be the absolute messiest because your family can hurt you more than anyone.”

Lind continued: “Both families will fight for each other, and seeing this integration of the two families come together … it gets messy. It gets really messy. In the best way. It gets so juicy. I’m so excited.”

In a joint interview with Little, 20, the costars broke down the fictional couple’s split.

“It was coming. It’s probably best that it happens earlier rather than later and having everything built up,” Little told Us before Lind noted, “The best things in life you have to work for. It’s this feeling when you’re given everything that you want and everything that you’ve worked for and rebelling against it.”

She added: “That’s what’s happening in this circumstance. But a true love story doesn’t come without some obstacles. You don’t just naturally fall in love. That’s romances across the board — regardless of how old you are.”

Lind highlighted how Oreana’s upbringing ultimately led to rebellion, saying, “She loves her dad, and it’s a toxic relationship that I think that a lot of women fall into. She’s drawn to that toxicity. Throughout all channels of her life, she’s drawn to this toxic energy, which is probably why she pushes Carter away when he’s a positive one.”
