T.J. Edwards seemingly read the script.
During the third quarter of the Bears’ 27-7 win over the Eagles on “Monday Night Football,” the Chicago linebacker appeared to listen in on a play call from Jalen Hurts.
While gathered with his teammates, the quarterback communicated the play as Edwards crept in from behind. Seconds later on fourth down, Edwards intercepted a pass intended for DeVonta Smith.
The ABC broadcast picked up on the moment at Soldier Field.
“The former Eagles T.J. Edwards up listening in to Jalen Hurts and was going through the call,” Joe Buck said.
However, when asked whether he understood anything from his sneaky move, the former Eagle told The Athletic, “No.”
“I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll hear some familiar stuff,’ and like they must have changed language up because I had no idea what they were talking about,” he said.
The interception put the game on ice for Philadelphia.
The play gave Chicago the ball back to start the fourth quarter and third-string quarterback Case Keenum charged the Bears down the field through 13 plays that ended in his own one-yard touchdown run.
The Eagles’ final offensive push ended on downs across six plays.
Edwards, a Wisconsin product, went undrafted in 2019 before signing with the Eagles. He played for the city until 2022.
The 30-year-old is now in his fourth season in Chicago.
The Bears (2-1) will host the Jets in Week 4, while the Eagles (2-1) will face the Rams in Philadelphia.
