Jerry Jeudy is firing back after a viral video appeared to show him naming his preference on who he thinks should be the starting quarterback for the Browns this season.
In the video, which was taken from a livestream, Jeudy flashes four fingers to the camera, which some took as a signal that he wants Deshaun Watson, who wears number 4, to be named the starter for the 2026 season over second-year QB Shedeur Sanders.
The clip appears edited, as there is a skip between Jeudy flashing the four and when the question appears.
“Yall cut the clip perfectly for that narrative,” Jeudy said in an X post Sunday.
“I don’t speak on decisions that aren’t mine to make,” Jeudy continued in another X post. “I support my teammates/Brothers, I do my job, and control what I can control. Let’s stop creating narratives that aren’t there for likes and clicks. I bet this won’t go viral because it’s too positive/real for y’all.”
Browns head coach Todd Monken wouldn’t name a starter coming out of minicamps in June, despite wanting to have the starter named when training camp opened in July.
“I’m not there yet,” Monken said at the time. “I just don’t see it after the way Shedeur has played and the way Deshaun’s played. They’ve both played well enough to earn the right to compete to start.”
Watson and Sanders split first-team reps during offseason programs, and the competition will continue as training camp fully opens this week.
Watson is heading into the final year of his five-year, fully guaranteed $230 million contract. He underwent surgery on a second rupture of his right Achilles in January 2025, which kept him out for the entirety of last season.
Sanders started seven games in his rookie season last year and was selected to the Pro Bowl as an alternate.
Monken was complimentary of both quarterbacks over the offseason, highlighting Sanders’ progress and Watson’s athleticism being on display.
The Browns begin training camp on Tuesday.
